Product Description
Vacuum Casting is a rapid prototyping technique commonly used to manufacture small batches of plastic parts or prototypes. The process uses silicone molds into which liquid polymers, such as ABS or other materials, are poured and cured in a vacuum environment, resulting in a highly accurate final product. Vacuum casting is particularly suitable for initial product validation, prototyping, and small production runs.
First, a 3D model of the product needs to be prepared. This can be generated by Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to ensure that the product design meets requirements.
Based on the 3D model, a master part is created using SLA (stereolithography) or CNC (numerical control machining) technology. The master mold is the basis for the production of silicone molds.
When the plastic part is immersed in silicone, the silicone will completely encapsulate it under pressure to form a mold. After a certain period of time, the silicone will cure and form a mold that can be used for subsequent casting.
Once the silicone mold is complete, the master part can be removed to obtain a reusable mold.
The selected ABS or other plastic material is injected into the silicone mold and cast under vacuum. The vacuum removes any air bubbles that may occur during the casting process, thus ensuring a smooth surface and high precision in the finished product.
After a certain period of curing, the final part will be removed from the mold, completing the entire vacuum casting process.
A variety of materials can be used in the vacuum casting process, including but not limited to the following:
ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
PP (Polypropylene)
POM (Polyoxymethylene)
PMMA (Plexiglass)
PC (Polycarbonate)
PU (Polyurethane)
TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane)
Silicone rubber
These materials can be selected according to different product requirements and application areas to meet different physical property needs.
